Fifteenth Week: Our Lord’s Death

Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
—John 1:29

As he climbed Mount Moriah unconscious of the fact that he was to be offered as a sacrifice by his father, Isaac asked of Abraham, “Where is the lamb?” (Genesis 22:7). And in spite of the offering up of multitudinous lambs on Jewish altars, Isaac’s question remains unanswered. It awaited a New Testament revelation. The question written all over the Old Testament is “Where is the lamb?” The central truth of the New Testament is “Behold the Lamb of God!” (John 1:35). The figure of the lamb takes us back to the Passover, when the lamb was slain, its life-blood sprinkled over the door post, and the family within saved and safe. Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
