The Holy Trinity

Lindsay Wilson

Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ.
—1 Peter 1:2

Here is one of the Scriptures in which we see that the great truth of the blessed Trinity lies at the very root of our spiritual lives. In our daily studies, I have written much about the adoration of God the Father and about the need for enough time each day to worship Him. But we must remind ourselves that, for all our fellowship with God, the presence and power of the Son and the Spirit are absolutely necessary.

What a realm this opens for us in the inner chamber! We need time to realize how all our fellowship with the Father is determined by the active and personal presence and working of the Lord Jesus. It takes time to become fully conscious of how much we need Him every time we approach Him, of what confidence we may have in the work that He is doing for us and in us, and of what the holy and intimate love is in which we may count upon His presence and all‑prevailing intercession. But, oh, to learn the lesson that prayer takes time, and that that time will be most blessedly rewarded!

It is the same with the divine and almighty power of the Holy Spirit working in the depths of our hearts as the One who alone is able to reveal the Son within each of us. Through Him alone we have the power to know what and how to pray; above all, through Him we know how to plead the name of Jesus and to receive the assurance that our prayers have been accepted.

Dear reader, have you not felt more than once that it was almost a mockery to speak of spending five minutes alone with God to come under the impression of His glory? And now, does not the thought of the true worship of God in Christ through the Holy Spirit make you feel more than ever that it takes time to enter into such holy alliance with God and to keep the heart and mind in His peace and presence throughout the day? By waiting in the secret of God’s presence, you receive grace to abide in Christ and to be led by His Spirit all day long.

Just pause and think: “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ.” What food for worship!

“When Thou saidst, Seek ye My face; my heart said unto Thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek’” (Psalm 27:8).
