Twenty-Eighth Week: The Eagle Face

They shall mount up with wings as eagles.
—Isaiah 40:31

While the eagle mounts up and makes her nest on high at God’s bidding (see Job 39:27), Isaiah, like David, saw in the eagle an emblem of renewed strength. Every year it molts, becoming almost naked and bald (see Micah 1:16) but appears to renew its youth with the appearances of a set of new feathers. “Thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalm 103:5).

And one day we are to have new feathers. At the return of the Lord, there will be a general molting. Seeing Him, we are to be like Him. And as He has the dew of His youth, our transformation into His likeness will mean the perpetuity of the strength of youthfulness.
