Eighteenth Week: Prayer

Sin…in ceasing to pray.
—1 Samuel 12:23

We seldom catalog prayerlessness as a sin, grievous in the sight of the Lord. Samuel, however, knew that if he failed to pray for the idolatrous multitude he would be guilty of sinning against the Lord, and the people who needed his prayers. Salvation carries with it a solemn obligation. Being saved implies the responsibility of trying to save others. Do you realize that you are debtor to those around you, and that if you cease to pray and labor for their ingathering, then you sin against them?

Praying without ceasing for the lost is an arduous task. George Muller prayed for well-nigh fifty years for a soul.
