Nineteenth Week: Faith

Strong in faith, giving glory to God…
—Romans 4:20

Dr. Weymouth’s translation has it, “Under hopeless circumstances, he hopefully believed.” He staggered not! Abraham believed that God could cause the impossible to happen. Do you? “Act faith,” our forefathers used to say. The late General William Booth’s slogan was “Keep up with your repeated act of faith.” The old Methodist preacher gave us practical wisdom when he wrote, “If the devil puts up a stone wall in front us we are to believe right through it.” Combining these sayings we come to the secret of strong faith. By repeated acts of faith we come to act faith, and believe, thereby, right through all stone walls.
