Nineteenth Week: Faith

God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
—Romans 12:3

That faith is God’s gift and that to some is granted more than to others is evident from the Bible and experience. All of us have faith, but some of us have a greater measure than others. And to whom much is given, much is expected.

Four times over our Lord spoke of “little faith” as a condition characteristic of His disciples. (See Matthew 6:30, 8:26, 14:31, 16:8.) Toplady said, “‘Little Faith’ goes to heaven no less than ‘Great Faith,’ though not so comfortably.”

“According to your faith, be it unto you” (Matthew 9:29). Such a declaration suggests an expanding mercy: it implies the necessity of seeking an ever-enlarging measure of trust in the power of the faithfulness of God. As God gives faith, may we be led to go in for a full supply.
