Make thy nest as high as the eagle.

Many bird nests are robbed, simply because they are within easy reach. The eagle, however, has been endowed of God with wisdom (see Job 39:27), to build her nest on the highest crag of the rock, where she knows her eggs or young will be safe. But Jeremiah reminds Edom that her high and haughty spirit will be crushed. “Though thou shouldst make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord” (Jeremiah 49:16). And, truly, He knows how to bring down the mighty from their seat.
