Twenty-Ninth Week: Disciples

Then are ye my disciples indeed.
—John 8:31

The word “disciple” means “a scholar,” and it was thus that Jesus thought of those who turned to follow Him. “Come unto me…and learn of me” (Matthew 11:28–29) was His gracious invitation, and all who responded became scholars in the divine school. And that He found some of them dull, backward pupils, is apparent from a study of the gospels. But what patience the Teacher manifested! Are we in school with Christ? If so, what kind of scholars are we? Can we say that we are growing in grace and in knowledge?
