Fifteenth Week: Our Lord’s Death

Baptized into his death.
—Romans 6:3

Holy Week, with all its remembrance of the cross and the empty tomb, will avail nothing unless it brings us into a fuller understanding and deeper experience of our union with Christ in His death and resurrection. What do we know about the fellowship of His sufferings and conformity to His death? Does this Easter season find us completely identified with our Lord in His death? When He died, I died. But am I dead—dead to the world, the flesh? Paul uses the word, “buried” (verse 4) in the passage before us. Buried! It is a grim term. If a person is dead and buried, they are out of sight, altogether so. Is this true of us, spiritually?
